Rein äußerlich unterscheidet sich ein BlackBerry 7230, erschienen im Oktober 2003, nicht von einem BlackBerry 6230.
Die Abmessungen sind mit 11,3 x 7,5 x 2,0 Zentimeter ebenfalls identisch. Das Gewicht beträgt 136 Gramm.
Der Speicher bietet 16 MB Flash-Speicher plus 1 MB RAM. Es wird eine Mini-SIM benötigt, um das Gerät vollständig nutzen zu können.
Das Display hat eine Größe von 2,6 Zoll mit 240 x 160 Pixeln Auflösung (111 PPI). Das Display ist nicht mehr monochrome, sondern hat 65536 Farben (Color TN-TFT LCD).
Der BlackBerry 7230 kommt ohne Bluetooth- und WLAN-Schnittstellen daher. Das Betriebssystem ist BlackBerry OS 4.0.
